The Ancestor Cell
by Peter Anghelides and Steven Cole
Description :
The Doctor finally returns to Gallifrey, where a mysterious bone Edifice has appeared. The
Faction Paradox are out to invade Gallifrey. The Doctor is himself riddled with the Faction
virus, and both sides are trying to use him. Will he become one of the Faction, or aid the Time
Lords in a war through history? Or is there a thrid way out?
Review :
To summarize my review: Yuk. This story is the end of the story arc, and hits the great big
reset switch to put history back to normal (except for Fitz, the Doctor, Compassion and a few
others). Good riddance.
I really had to struggle through this story, only persevering to read the end of all the loose
ends and story arc elements. This book just piles on event after event, many of them nasty or
confusing. With staight-forward plotting and an engaging style it might have worked.
Anyway, the future looks brighter with the decks cleared for the new stories. The story ends
with a bang, and history has been changed so it didn't happen, although the Doctor and co will
still remember it. The consequences will directly hit the book range for the next six books at
least, and also beyond that.
Don't read this unless you really, really need to know how the whole Interference,
Type 102 TARDIS, Faction Paradox etc. stuff works out.
Rating :
One Star (Out of Five)
Notes :
One of the original series of books featuring the Eight Doctor, Fitz and Compassion. It ties up
most of the loose ends from the recent story arc(s) and sets the scene for the sequence of books
with the Doctor stranded on Earth having lost his memory.
The review of the previous book in the series, The Banquo
Legacy, can be found here.
