[Note on dating: According to the CG, Whit taught for 14 years, giving it up after his wife died, the date for which was given as 1984. However, the Whittakers moved to Odyssey in 1972, six months after Jerry died, and were in "virtual seclusion" for a year. Therefore, either Whit only taught for 12 years at most, or Jenny died in 1987. I've therefore compromised on the date.]
Jenny Whittaker became involved in a campaign to save the Fillmore Recreation Centre. Philip Glossman was trying to persuade the council to sell the land to the Webster Development Company. (WDC was owned by Dr Blackgaard, who wanted to get the mineral under the building ["The Battle"].) Jenny collapsed in a council meeting, so the decision was postponed a month.
Jenny Whittaker died of a serious kidney disease sometime in March. One of her last wishes was for Whit to open somewhere for children. ["Recollections", CG].
Whit became reclusive, spending too much time watching television, causing him to get rid of his set ["Isaac the Benevolent"].
Whit bought the Fillmore Recreational Centre on behalf of the Universal Press Foundation, beating the offer of WDC ["Recollections"]. Glossman used his influence so that the land wasn't sold with the Centre.
Whit gave up teaching, since it no longer interested him after Jenny's death.[CG].
Whit's End opened. Whit had had the secret computer room put in, to which he moved his work on Applesauce ["The Battle" by implication. Whit was working on Applesauce "long before he even thought of Whit's End", and had the computer room built when he started Whit's End, probably to house Mable (the computer) and Applesauce].
The War Memorial was unveiled in McCalister Park ["The Price of Freedom"].
Monty Whittaker-Dowd stayed with Whit, and caused problems at first, including ringing up Jana, his mum, to ask her to take him home, claiming Whit is making his life a misery. When Jana arrives she argues with Whit, but they talk things out and start to heal the family ["A Member of the Family"].
Mark Prescott moved to Odyssey after his parents split up. Whit experimented with a prototype of The Imagination Station. ["A Strange Journey Back"].
Mark wants to join the Israelites, and tells them about a cave he promised to keep secret ["The Secret Cave of Robinwood"].
Mark Prescott went to Camp What-a-Nut. His parents decided to get back together ["Lights Out at Camp What-a-Nut"].
Mark didn't want to go back to Washington DC, so Whit sends him in the Imagination Station ["The King's Quest"].
Mark Prescott moved back to Washington DC.
Jack Davis started school and has trouble with Colin Francis, a chronic liar. ["Danger Lies Ahead"].
Jimmy Barclay became a Christian and shortly after Grandma Barclay died. ["Point of No Return"].
Raymond Clark collapsed during the Bible Bowl at Whit's End, after making a speech that caused several people to live their lives how Jesus would.
Karen and Lucy discovered that Art Laker, a teacher at their school, had been taking bribes ["The Stranger's Message"].
Connie Kendall moved to Odyssey and was employed at Whit's End ["Connie Comes to Town"].
Annie McNeal goes to Foster Creek with Whit to help him ["The Day After Christmas"].
