A mysterious display of strange lights in the sky one night leaves all but the few who didn't
see the display blind. The Triffids, walking plants with a deadly sting, previously of little
danger due to their lack of speed, could stop humans from reclaiming the world...
Review :
An infamous tale of walking plants. This is quite a good story, with the effects of sudden
blindness of the majority of the population interestingly explored. The collapse of civilization
stories like this fascinates me. John Wyndham chooses to focus on events through the character
telling the story. There are some suspenseful moments and the story is quite thought provoking.
I didn't like the way in which an abandonment of morality seemed inevitably for survival, in
such a situation I accept that certain conventions would have to be lost but not to the degree
suggested. The triffids themselves are quite interesting and are sometimes used well.
