Maddy has been having dreams of a young Queen asking for her help. Mysteriously, Maddy finds
herself in the land of Marus, where she meets the Queen and discovers a plot that threatens all
those who believe in the Unseen One..
Review :
This was the first of the Passages books I read, since my library got them out of sequence,
rather frustratingly. Anyway, on with the review.
The Prologue and Epilogue, where Whit and Jack find and investigate the manuscripts which tell
of children visiting the land of Marus, is very interesting and intriguing.
The story proper focuses on Maddy, whose family emigrated from Russia to escape the Russian
Revolution. In this story parallels are drawn between what happened in Russia and the happenings
in Marus. This is something Paul McCusker does well and does again in Glenall's
Betrayal.
The story is very good and well written, but in directly basing itself on a Bible story the plot
will be familiar to many people. The story doesn't expand on the story enough to surprise us.
Hector comes across somewhat two-dimensionally at times, although being a Doctor Who fan
was amused by his threat to Mandy "I will exterminate you!".
I did enjoy the story and can give it a good recommendation.
