A stranger interrupts the Bible Bowl quiz at Whit's End with a desperate plea before collapsing
from a heart attack! His plea? For people to really think "What would Jesus do?". Whit, along
with Lucy, Karen, Matt, Jack and Oscar, pledge to try and really apply it to their lives.
Before long Matt, Jack and Oscar are trying to find how Jesus would deal with bullies, while
Karen and Lucy find themselves uncovering a school official taking bribes. What would Jesus do
in these situations?
Review :
The idea for the story is a good one: what would happen if people really started "doing
what Jesus would do". (Not start a line of merchandise to make money from the phrase, for one
thing!). Paul Mc Cusker takes an idea used by Charles Sheldon in "In His Steps" and applies it
to Odyssey.
The story opens a little slowly, but gathers pace by the time the titular stranger interrupts
the Bible Bowl. The story really gets going when Whit and the gang decided to pledge to "do what
Jesus would do". While the plot with the bribes and so on added suspense and mystery, it
detracted somewhat from the original idea. This part of the plot could stand up without the
"what would Jesus do?" theme fairly easily. In this respect the other subplot with Jack and Matt
was good, otherwise the "what would Jesus do?" part would become unnescessary.
A pretty good story, but soon becomes distracted from the original premise.
Rating :
Three Stars (Out of Five)
Notes :
The last chapter is based on the first scene from "Connie Comes to Town" AIO radio story, but
the dialogue is mostly changed or left out.
